Launched on Good Friday 21 March 2008 and counting.... Welcome to Wessex Live Music Diary - your local live music resource. You'll find bands for hire, venues providing live music, small ads for anything music - related, live music events listings and gig reviews. We hope you enjoy the site, and we also hope you are inspired to get involved by sending us some more info, reviews etc. Wessex Live is focussed mainly on Dorset, Wiltshire, Somerset. We're looking to establish a comprehensive live music resource based around that area. The original Wessex Live was a much smaller site set up a couple of years ago. Since then, it has attracted a steadily increasing stream of visitors and supporters, and has proved successful in giving local bands, venues and music lovers a useful point of contact, resulting in an increase in variety and attendance of live music events. We have now invested in our own webspace and are building on that success and dramatically expanding the site. This needs help from YOU - either by sending us things to put onto the site, by mentioning Wessex Live when contacting a band, venue or advertiser, or by linking to us from your own site. At the bottom of this page you'll find a groovy logo to use as a link, or a simple text link is fine too. All these things will increase our traffic, which is good for everybody. At present, all areas of this site are FREE, we're hosting the site for FREE, and we're expanding it for FREE. So give us a hand to make it work. What's in it for us? 1) We really love live music; we both play and we like to see a thriving live music scene. We also organise and promote various local live music events in the area, putting the right bands in the right venues at the right time. 2) We're offering a Web Design service, all inclusive at very low costs. Prices start at £50 including hosting, and of course you'll immediately be linked into this site, providing you with instant, relevant traffic. Sites will be hosted here; check out our latest site to see a good, clean design - built, updated and hosted by Wessex Live. Contact us for more info. 3) The band / venue listings, diary, jam nights and gig reviews will remain free; we have no plans to change this. However, at some point we will charge a nominal amount for the small ads. But don't panic; the costs will be low, we won't be greedy, and we won't do it until we have enough visitors to make it a seriously good deal. OK, so it might cost you two quid to advertise your guitar for a week; but consider the people who are likely to see it here compared to the window of your local shop. No contest. These fees will be used to cover our costs, and any surplus can then be used to expand and enhance Wessex Live, to the benefit of everyone on it. Good, eh?
